Understanding Property Taxes & Proposal A (from 1994)
Proposal A, was approved by Voters in 1994 and was an amendment to the Michigan State Constitution.

Many, still do not always understand the workings of Proposal A and how it affects the SEV and Taxable Value of property.  Below are two different documents created to explain it in plain language for homeowners.

If you still have questions about your property values, how any portion of Proposal A's regulations are affecting your property values or tax bill, Laketon Township Assessor Wanda Budnik is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and can be reached at 231-744-2454.

Please note:  her job duties do require her to be outdoors measuring homes, properties and making sure property record information is correct.

Both documents below are designed to explain how Proposal A (approved by voters in 1994) affects property values and property taxes.  Please keep in mind the numbers used are for examples only and do not reflect any particular property.  Each property is different and if you have specific questions, it is still best to speak with the assessor for specific answers.
