NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
OF THE
LATETON TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION
Please take notice that the Laketon Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to consider proposed amendments to the Laketon Township Zoning Ordinance, said proposed amendments follow:
Section 2.05: Adding the definition of “driveway”
Section 3.08: Clarifying the conditions under which land can be cleared
Section 3.09: Increasing the amount of soil that may be added or removed from a parcel before a special land use permit is required.
Section 3.18: Clarifying regulations for accessory structures
Section 3.20 (H) & (J): Clarifying fence regulations
Section 3.25 (f) (10): Deleting reference to driveways
Section 6.04 (A): Delete the maximum lot size limitation
Section 10.03 (J): Delete this section entirely.
Section 17.05 (EE): Repealing & replacing the Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) regulations and providing for residential applications.
Section 17.4: Add a requirement for “statement of findings” (This is a State Zoning Enabling Act requirement).
Section 20.05 (B) (3): Delete “the modified language shall be referred back to the Planning Commission for additional comment” (This is a State Zoning Enabling Act requirement).
Section 20.08 (b): Change “misdemeanor” to “municipal civil infraction”
The proposed amendments to the Laketon Township Zoning Ordinance shall be given effect upon adoption by the Township Board of Trustees.
The public hearing will be held at the Laketon Township Hall, 2735 W. Giles Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445 on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at 6:00 PM.
The present use map of the Township may be examined at the Township Hall, during business hours 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday, together with the entire text of the Zoning Ordinance and the proposed amendments.

NOTICE: The office of the Laketon Township Treasurer is vacant. The Laketon Township Board of Trustees is required to appoint a replacement to fill this elected position until the 2010 Primary and General Elections are held (in August 2010 and November 2010 respectively) at which time any qualified candidate interested in running for this elected office may do so after filing all of the appropriate paperwork.
The only statutory requirement for holding township board elective office is that a candidate MUST be a QUALIFIED ELECTOR of the township and REGISTERED TO VOTE. To be a qualified elector, a person must be 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and have lived in the township at least 30 days (property ownership is not required). (MCLs168.11 and 168.342)
Any qualified Laketon Township resident wishing to apply for the position must complete an employment application and submit a resume to the Laketon Township Board of Trustees. Resumes must be hand delivered by the applicant to the Laketon Township Hall by Friday March 12, 2010 at 4:30pm.
